Where can I get help?
The Workers' compensation system can be very complicated and confusing. You don't have to face it alone.
Community Legal Education Ontario (CLEO) produces plain language guides to workers' compensation, social assistance, disability, family law, employment insurance, human rights and other issues.
If you need legal help, contact:
Your Union: If you are a member of a union, call your union representative. Most unions have a staff person who handles Workers' Compensation cases.
Community legal clinics: Clinics provide free legal help to people with low incomes. Many clinics take Workers' Compensation cases. For a community legal clinic in your area, click on Legal Aid's directory of clinics , download CLEO's booklet & directory " Getting legal help " (2011) or look under "Legal Aid" in the white pages.
Office of the Worker Advisor: The Office of the Worker Advisor provides free representation to non-unionized injured workers. (There may be a long waiting list). See their website for Fact sheets and a list of offices near you. Or, if there isn't a listing in your area, call toll free 1-800-435-8980 or 416-325-8570 in Toronto.
MPP (Member of Provincial Parliament): Staff at your MPP's office may be able to help you. To find out who your MPP is, call toll free 1-800-677-8683 or click here for contact details.
Injured Workers' Groups: To find out if there is an injured workers' group near you, call the Ontario Network of the Injured Workers Groups at 905-662-7128 or email oniwg@sympatico.ca .
Legal Aid Certificate: This certificate pays all or part of your lawyer's fees. Contact your nearest Legal Aid office to learn whether you qualify. The phone number is listed under "Legal Aid" in the white pages of your telephone book.
If there isn't a Community Legal Clinic near you and you want
help finding a lawyer who handles WCB cases, call the Lawyer Referral Service. They
will give you the name of a lawyer who will provide a free 30 minute consultation.
